OHO.live is an interactive streaming platform that offers live reality TV experiences, allowing users to engage directly with real-time content.

For OHO.live, I focused on creating an intuitive and immersive user experience, ensuring seamless interactions across both iOS and Android platforms. My approach combined user-centered design principles with interactive elements that enhance engagement in live reality TV experiences. By optimizing navigation, ensuring cross-platform consistency, and refining usability through iterative testing, I delivered a fluid and engaging interface tailored to real-time content consumption.

The primary goal was to design a seamless and interactive streaming experience that maximizes user engagement and participation. This involved crafting intuitive UI elements, optimizing accessibility, and ensuring a cohesive cross-platform experience. The ultimate objective was to empower users with a frictionless way to connect with live reality TV content, enhancing viewer interaction and satisfaction.

User Research

Based on interviews with fans of interactive live content (Twitter, TikTok Live, etc.), we identified key user profiles. Initially, we expected our audience to be primarily young (18-25 years old), similar to platforms like TikTok and Twitch. However, our research revealed a natural expansion of the age range, comfortably reaching 35-40 years. While we don’t have exact percentages, this broader demographic suggests that interest extends beyond digital early adopters, with a more mature audience also engaging with interactive content.

Key User Challenges Identified

Lack of Context Users often struggle to understand what they are watching due to the absence of a clear structure for identifying episodes or key moments in the storyline. No Clear Timeline The short-segment format makes it difficult to follow narrative progression, leaving users unsure of past events or what’s coming next. Difficulty Finding Guest Information There is no centralized section to view guest profiles or their past appearances. Users joining a live session in progress want quick access to participant details. No Dedicated Space for Additional Shows The platform lacks a hub for complementary content and spin-offs, making it harder for users to explore related shows within the same universe.

Structuring the Homepage for Better Content Discovery

We designed the homepage to help users easily understand and catch up on the latest VOD content from live streams. Whether they missed a major moment, want to revisit highlights, or follow their favorite guests, the layout ensures a seamless browsing experience. By organizing content into clear sections, we cater to different viewing behaviors: Engaged Fans can dive into interactive recaps, Curious Viewers can explore trending moments, and Binge-Watchers have structured access to past episodes and storylines. This approach ensures that all users quickly find relevant content, keeping them connected to the live experience.

Improved Narrative Progression

Implemented a timeline feature that allows users to track previous and upcoming segments, making it easier to follow the storyline. Designed a highlight reel or recap function to help users catch up quickly.

Bringing Fans Closer: Live Chat for Real-Time Engagement

Driven by overwhelming fan demand across social platforms, we introduced a live chat feature on OHO. Leveraging a third-party service with moderation capabilities, we ensured a safe and engaging environment for viewers. This feature has significantly boosted interaction, particularly after trending conversations on Twitter and other channels, enhancing the real-time community experience.

Interactive Polls: Empowering Fans to Shape the Show

To elevate audience engagement, we introduced interactive polls—both short-form and long-form—that directly influenced the reality show in real time. Fans could vote on key decisions, from daily challenges to guest eliminations, giving them a voice in the show's narrative. These polls also provided insights into which guests had the most dedicated followers, driving competitive dynamics within the show. By integrating this feature, we harnessed real-time fan sentiment, increasing engagement and deepening the connection between the audience and the contestants.

Personalized Content: Dedicated Pages for Guests, Categories & Presenters

Responding to fan requests for a more tailored experience, we introduced dedicated pages for guests, live show categories, and presenters. These pages allow viewers to follow their favorite personalities, explore curated content, and stay updated on exclusive insights. By aligning with user preferences, this feature enhances fan loyalty and engagement, offering a personalized way to interact with the show and its stars.

Seamless Design Driving Engagement and Grow

The design of OHO Live was instrumental in achieving significant user engagement and growth. By focusing on a user-centric interface that facilitated seamless navigation and real-time interactions, the platform attracted over 450,000 mobile app downloads during its two-month live program. This intuitive design encouraged users to spend more time on the app, contributing to the streaming of more than 2 million hours of content.
