Skylark

A SaaS Platform for streaming and video products

Client

Skylark is an API and a CMS for video products. It is capable of handling all the complexities of video products, enabling content owners to build and scale streaming platforms that are world-class.

Approach

In my role as a Lead Product Designer for over 5 years, I have been part of the spin-out of Skylark from its parent company, Ostmodern, transforming it into a product that successfully secured funding of 2 million pounds. I've lead the process from research, through design and build, to launch and evolution.

Delivery

My role involves setting design requirements from insights gathered from internal teams and user research, constantly seeking opportunities for enhancing our products. My responsibilities also extend to adapting existing designs to align with evolving customer preferences.

From research, customer facing to strategy and design delivery.

A live customer profile

I have consistently engaged with editorial teams entrusted with the management of their product media catalog, overseeing the seamless delivery of video content to their respective audiences. Our collective objective has been the strategic enhancement of customer engagement. I've developed a live diagram that provides our team a comprehensive overview of individual client requirements. This tool enables us to capture the nuances of their distinct needs and preferences more effectively.

A fresh ecosystem

The efficiency of routine tasks frequently relies on the effectiveness of CMS tools. I've designed a new navigation system within a fresh ecosystem, aligning it with the industry standards for structuring data models globally. This development reflects our philosophy of ‘quiet innovation’, which translates to finding outcomes that may appear to be small but make a big difference for clients.

A better editorial experience

Upon the launch of Skylark v2, the primary design goal was to introduce a fresh arena for curators. This involved crafting a robust curation experience, emphasizing streamlined and time-saving content management. Users gained increased flexibility with the ability to independently create new pages and components, resulting in a significantly enhanced content discovery experience.

The power of task automation

Introducing an advanced filtering system to enhance aggregation and streamline automation is set to play a pivotal role in improving editorial tasks. This integration is expected to greatly enhance efficiency across editorial workflows. The capability to generate detailed automated lists will further optimize engagement within the catalogue, effectively reducing the editorial effort needed.

Efficient content organization

Accelerating grouping and placement for editors, discovering and grouping content seamlessly merge into a unified workflow, drastically cutting down the effort required for curating content selections. The manual override of automated lists is poised to become an integral aspect of workflows, expected to be standard practice for most editors.

Optimizing with Data

Skylark's Decision-Making Engine prioritizes analytics, empowering your curation teams to enhance content uptake over time, adapting seamlessly to the evolving user base.

Empowering Editors with Data-Driven Decision-Making

Our approach recommends actions to editors, enabling them to make faster, informed decisions for maximizing engagement with their media content. The clear objective is to achieve the target score for each individual piece of content.
